Our History

Building ESSCA 1939

For over 100 years, ESSCA has been renowned amongst the French Grandes Ecoles in Management for the originality and solidity of its project.

KEY DATES

  • 1909:
    The Dean of the law faculty at the Catholic University of the West, Dr. Paul Baugas, founded the Angers Business School.
  • 1938:
    Founding of the ESSCA alumni network association.
  • 1940:
    Move to facilities in the rue Merlet de la Boulaye.
  • 1943:
    The Angers Business School became the Angers School of Management under its current French acronym, ESSCA.
  • 1954:
    Move to a three-year degree.
  • 1967:
    ESSCA became a non-profit association (law of 1901) and became a founding member of FESIC.
  • 1969:
    Move to ESSCA’s new campus in the Belle Beille area of Angers.
    Move to a four-year degree.
  • 1975:
    ESSCA obtained French government recognition.
  • 1977:
    ESSCA gained admittance to the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles.
  • 1978:
    Launch of the first work-study program.
  • 1980:
    ESSCA obtained French government accreditation.
  • 1984:
    The ESSCA project was a turning point in the life of the school.
    A veritable corporate project, it affirmed the school’s values and prepared its future development.
  • 1988:
    The “Main Building” opened and the new class of 170 students was admitted.
  • 1992:
    First promotion of the Bachelor in International Management (Bachelor ESIAME-Groupe ESSCA).
    ESSCA became part of the Management Grandes Ecoles Chapter of the CGE, the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles.
  • 1993:
    ESSCA opened in the Paris metropolitan area and welcomed a first year class of 315 students.  An office is opened in Budapest.
  • 2001:
    Inauguration of a new 2,500 sq. meter building in Angers.
    Opening of the ESSCA diploma via executive education in Paris, and the start-up of an ECampus.
  • 2003:
    Inauguration of the new Budapest facilities.
  • 2004:
    First graduating class after 5 years’ studies.  ESSCA obtained the Master’s level.
  • 2006:
    ESSCA became the first French management school to receive EFMD’s EPAS accreditation.
    Opening of the Shanghai site.
  • 2007:
    Significant increase in the first year intake, from 350 to 420 students.
    Opening of the Shanghai site.
  • 2008:
    New facilities in Boulogne-Billancourt.
    15th anniversary of the Budapest site and inauguration of new facilities.
    New specialisation in Webmarketing
  • 2009:
    ESSCA’s 100 year anniversary.
    Construction of a new 4,400 sq. meter building in Angers.
    EPAS and Grande Ecole Master’s level reaccreditation for 5 years.
  • 2010:
    First intake in Boulogne-Billancourt, a 5,000 sq. meter building on the banks of the River Seine.
    The school was declared eligible for the AACSB accreditation process.
  • 2011:
    Inauguration of the corporate incubator in Boulogne
  • 2012:
    Opening of the first master’s program via work-study
  • 2013:
    New specialisation in Finance and Risk Management.
    1st edition of the Digiprize Competition
  • 2014:
    ESSCA receives AACSB accreditation
  • 2015
    ESSCA enters the prestigious Financial Times Master in Management  Ranking
  • 2016
    ESSCA receives EQUIS accreditation by EFMD
